It is in times like these that I am especially thankful that FDSA can support our deputies and sheriff’s office employees through direct and immediate assistance and through programs such as the Lend a Hand Fund, developed to help law enforcement personnel in their greatest time of need.

FDSA Lend a Hand Fund Receives $100,000 to Support Deputies in Need After Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton
On October 18, 2024, FDSA President Sheriff Billy Woods joined Governor Ron DeSantis and Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister to accept a $100,000 donation from Florida’s Disaster Fund.

On behalf of the Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association, Wakulla County Sheriff Jared Miller presented a check to Deputy Metcalf’s spouse. Deputy Metcalf will always be remembered for his service to Wakulla County, Florida.

It was great to provide positive news about the continued progress and growth of the Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association at the recent FSA Sheriffs Summer Conference, including our largest budget to date of $2.3 million.

Safer Stops and Preparing for the Future
The year was 2009. Barack Obama was inaugurated. The first Android phone was released. Bitcoin was introduced and Avatar was the winner at the box office. It was also the year that the Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association was launched with the goal of providing needed services to the brave men and women who serve their communities through our 67 sheriffs’ offices.

Sheriff Edenfield & FDSA Board Member Major Wes Burch presented a Lend A Hand donation to Sergeant Peggy Hodges & Deputy Ty Hodges of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Lend a Hand Story: FDSA Supports Sheriffs Deputies in Leon County Following Tornado Damage
In May 2024, Leon County and the surrounding areas suffered extensive damage from multiple tornadoes. Several Leon County Sheriffs Deputies were displaced from their homes following catastrophic damage and needed to find alternative shelter while still serving residents in the community. FDSA Executive Director Keith Dean presented an initial donation to Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil to support these deputies and their families.

Following the death of one of their deputy’s children, FDSA Executive Director Keith Dean presented Walton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Audie Rowell with a Lend a Hand donation to support their family during the difficult time.
Lend a Hand Story: FDSA Supports Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Peacock After His Home was Damaged in a Fire
Taylor County Sheriff Wayne Padgett presented Deputy Peacock with an FDSA Lend A Hand check to help after Deputy Peacock’s home was damaged in a house fire.
