Largest Budget, New Leadership and First FDSA Conference

It was great to provide positive news about the continued progress and growth of the Florida Deputy Sheriffs Association at the recent FSA Sheriffs Summer Conference, including our largest budget to date of $2.3 million.

Through the leadership of Senate President Ben Albritton, $750,000 has been earmarked for the Law Enforcement Apprenticeship Program (LEAP). We will be able to add 26 new deputies this year, and LEAP will pay for their training and resources during enrollment in a certified law enforcement academy.
Out of 67 counties, 54 sheriffs’ offices are now providing FDSA membership, and two thirds of those are also providing the legal benefit. In the first half of 2024, we’ve already represented 39 deputies in use-of-force incidences, plus car crashes and investigations through Internal Affairs departments and FDLE.

FDSA has also contributed more than $70,000 for the families of deputies who experienced personal tragedies through our Lend A Hand Fund. We’ve raised more than $115,000 for future needs, and we are continuing our programs focused on recruitment, retention, mental wellness and financial wellness.
Thank you to Immediate Past President and Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast for outstanding leadership that has helped us grow and serve.

Join us in welcoming our new leaders for 2024:

  • President Sheriff Billy Woods, Marion County
  • Vice President Sheriff Gator DeLoach, Putnam County
  • Secretary Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, Lake County
  • Treasurer Chief Bobby Green, Leon County
  • Immediate Past President Sheriff Mike Prendergast, Citrus County

Mark your calendars for our first FDSA Conference, which is scheduled for May 28 – 30, 2025. We can’t wait to see you in Jacksonville for the Florida Law Enforcement and Tactical Operations Conference and Expo! You can learn more by visiting our new and improved website at fldeputysheriffs.org.
